Contract IV: Conveyance (Pipeline)
Summary of Work Performed this week: 10/03/2009
West End Conveyance (Ranch Properties) – The west end crew worked on the pipeline installation at Station 32+00 under the railroad. The crew installed the 36-inch effluent, two 18-inch influent, and the 8-inch waste activated sludge lines through the steel casings. All DIP was wrapped for corrosion protection and all spacers were installed as specified. The fiber optic line was installed in conduit through the steel casing. All pipelines have been pushed through the casings and the connections are complete at Station 32+00. The ends of the casings are sealed with brick and masonry. S.J. Louis used steel cables to tie down the triple pipeline through the 60-inch casing to prevent the pipeline from flexing and bowing while under pressure. The west end crew also worked on the air release valve assemblies at Station 39+60.

GHBW performed compaction testing from Station 32+00 through Station 50+00. All areas tested were within specification EXCEPT Station 50+00. Station 50+00 is still saturated from last week’s rains and had high moisture content. A formal report will be issued by GHBW. The utility crew performed cleanup activities on the west end. The utility crew has completed the contour restoration throughout the area and began fine grading. Some seed bed preparation was started and fertilizer will begin next week. Hand seeding and straw application was done from Station 70+00 through Station 90+00. Turbidity curtains were placed at the water crossing at Station 136+00. Gravel and rock have been stockpiled at the water crossing in preparation for building the crossing next week.

East End Conveyance - The pipeline crew for the east end was not onsite during the day on Monday or Tuesday. The crew worked at night from 8:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. morning making the crossing at the Hatcher property entrance. The east end crew worked Monday overnight making their first attempt at crossing the entrance to the Hatcher property. The crew installed one joint of 36-inch pipe to approximately Station 164+20 as specified. Progression was slow due to the amount of utilities in the area. The crew stopped installation and had the road backfilled before 5:30 a.m. Tuesday night; S.J. Louis completed the transition out of Pinnacle Valley Road and across the access to the Hatcher property, as well as, the LMPS. S.J. Louis placed two full joints of 36-inch DIP, ending at approximately Station 164+00. All DIP was wrapped in the specified poly and installed according to the contract documents. Access to the Hatcher property and the pump station was completed before 5:30 a.m. The S.J. Louis east end crew returned to work on Thursday morning at 6:00 a.m. Max Hardin (S.J. Louis), requested that all vehicles be parked outside the pump station access road corridor beginning Thursday, 10/1/09. S.J. Louis will be working in the corridor, but access to the pump station will be available at all times.

The S.J. Louis utility crew completed permanent stabilization efforts from Station 277+50 to Station 305+00. The rest of the day was used for cleanup. S.J. Louis east end pipe crew advanced the pipe line approximately 250-feet, from Station 164+00 to Station 161+50. The crew stopped pipe line installation at noon on Thursday, and performed clean-up work till approximately 2:00 pm. The crew will be off until Monday, October 5, 2009.

Klaasmeyer Construction completed the fiber optic cable relocation work at the Little Maumelle bridge. AT&T will do the cable splicing to finish the project. Larry Wilhite (Klaasmeyer Construction) has notified AT&T that the cable is ready to be spliced, and AT&T predicted it will be two weeks until a crew can finish the splicing.
