Summary of Work Performed this week: 09/12/2009

West End Conveyance (Ranch Properties) – SJ Louis resumed pipeline installation this week at Station 57+00 and advanced the pipeline westward to Station 49+50 by the end of the week. The trench conditions remained very favorable throughout the week with small amounts of ground water present in the lower level of the pipeline. By Station 51+00, there was no groundwater present in the pipeline. The pipelines were installed as specified. The pipeline was advanced through the backwater area this week.
The utility crew continued the erosion control operations along the easement and worked on restoring the contours at areas where pipeline had been installed. The utility crew also spent time staging pipe and stockpiling #67 stone using the East Pinnacle Road access. The utility crew worked on the air release valves at Station 73+48 and Station 107+78. All pipe and gravel necessary for the pipeline installation using the East Pinnacle access has been delivered. No large truck deliveries are expected from this point forward using East Pinnacle Road.
Grubbs, Hoskyn, Barton, and Wyatt had a Geologist, Justin Ferguson, make daily trench observations. Mark Wyatt (GHBW) was onsite to observe and inspect compaction efforts from Station 122+00 to Station 60+00. He submitted a formal report recommending acceptance of the current compaction in this area. Stan Graves, Arkansas State Parks, visited the area of construction within the State Park and was satisfied with the operations. |

East End Conveyance - S.J. Louis relocated to the west bank and began to move westward with the pipeline from Station 181+00 +/-. SJ Louis placed approximately 50-feet of 36-inch DIP, from Station 181+00 to Station 180+50. S.J. Louis also placed approximately 900-feet of 36-inch PVC, from Station 180+50 to Station 171+50. All pipes were placed according to design specification. The LRW existing 24-inch force main was located 12.7-feet below the top of the asphalt at Station 181+00, and the AT&T existing line was located. Tuesday, September 7, 2009, Allison Najif (AT&T) was contacted concerning the fiber optic cable relocation conflict at the Little Maumelle Bridge. She will contact Rick Roberts (Pulaski County) and Larry Wilhite (Klaasmeyer Construction) to resolve the issue. Follow-up contact will be made tomorrow, Wednesday, September 9, 2009. GHBW was onsite for compaction testing on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at Pinnacle Valley Road. The test was performed at Station 179+00, at one foot below grade. Wednesday, September 9, 2009, Craig Johnson and Joe Dollerschell (CDM) were onsite to discuss and resolve the issue of the fiber optic conduit location on the Little Maumelle River Bridge. After observation of the options available, Craig called Sherman Smith (Pulaski County) concerning the issue. Mr. Smith gave Craig Johnson verbal permission to attach the conduit to the outside of the concrete guard rail, approximately 4-inches up from the bridge deck surface. Allison Najif (AT&T) was notified of the placement approval. Mrs. Najif requested, signed documentation from Pulaski County, and for the project to proceed as proposed. Larry Wilhite (Klaasmeyer Construction) will be notified by Mrs. Najif, and will begin as soon as mounting brackets can be shipped and received. |

Wednesday September 09, 2009 - S&J Construction began work for the CAW line relocation on County Farm Road. S&J located and exposed the existing 24-inch water line, 130-feet west of the fire hydrant at the entrance to Two Rivers Park. S&J then placed an 8-inch tapping sleeve and gate valve (Clow) The pressure test and tap was performed by Interstate Tapping, Tim Bull. Billy Otts (CAW) was onsite to observe testing, and the pressure test passed 225 PSI for 30 minutes.
An OSHA inspector was onsite and questioned the S&J superintendent, Lloyd, about trench safety on Wednesday, September 8, 2009. No citation was written, just inquiry as to trench safety and trench box usage. Thursday, September 10, 2009, a meeting concerning the fiber optic cable relocation on the Little Maumelle Bridge took place this morning. Larry Wilhite (Klaasmeyer Construction), Max Hardin (S.J. Louis), Rick Roberts (Pulaski County), Mike Hoggard (CDM) were in attendance. Rick Roberts confirmed the location for the placement of the conduit attachment to the bridge, approximately 4-inches above the bridge deck in the concrete guard rail will be the pathway. All in attendance agreed with the location. Mr. Wilhite ordered the needed equipment, and construction will begin late next week. Friday. |
